In-depth guide

Everything we coordinate in Bandol, Sanary & vineyards.

The Bandol AOC vineyard, planted on limestone-clay restanques between sea and pine forests, produces some of the most respected wines in Provence: powerful rosés, age-worthy reds based on Mourvèdre, rare and elegant whites. The Pibarnon, Tempier, Pradeaux, Bunan, La Bégude estates open their cellars on appointment. We book private tastings, lunches with the winegrower, vineyard hikes.

Sanary-sur-Mer was elected most beautiful market in France in 2018. Its 4-times-a-week market, colourful harbour with pointu fishing boats, charming village, and family beaches make it an ideal base. Bandol, slightly more lively, offers a pretty harbour, beach clubs, and easy access to the Bendor island (10-minute shuttle).

The Bandol calanques, accessible by boat from the harbour, rival those of Cassis: turquoise creeks at the foot of white cliffs, swims in deep water, lunch at anchor. A 30-minute day trip reaches Cassis and its calanques — combining the two coasts.

Six-Fours-les-Plages, with its Lazaret Bay and Les Embiez island, completes this trio. Sailing, paddle, kitesurfing at Brutal Beach, sea fishing: the area concentrates a complete watersports offering at fair prices.

Frequently asked questions

Our answers about Bandol, Sanary & vineyards.

Why visit a Bandol vineyard?

Bandol is the most prestigious AOC in Provence — internationally recognized for its Mourvèdre-based reds and rosés capable of ageing 10+ years. Visiting a vineyard means understanding why this terroir is unique.

Sanary or Bandol as a base?

Sanary for the village atmosphere, the most beautiful market in France, and quieter family beaches. Bandol for the harbour, the beach clubs, and the boat shuttles. Both are 10 minutes apart by car.

Is the Bendor island worth a visit?

Yes — small island (8 hectares) in Bandol Bay, accessible in 10 min by shuttle, owned by the Ricard family. Modern art exhibitions, peaceful walking paths, two restaurants. Half-day trip.

Bandol calanques — boat or hike?

By boat for the variety (multiple calanques, swim stops in turquoise water, lunch at anchor): around €600-1200 per day for 6 people. By hike for the panoramic views: 2-3h walks from the Madrague trailhead.
