Le Lavandou and Bormes-les-Mimosas hold a unique position in Var: golden sand beaches (the rarest along the French Riviera coast), perched medieval villages, mimosa hills in winter. A more confidential and family-friendly destination than Saint-Tropez.

In-depth guide

Everything we coordinate in Maures coast.

Le Lavandou is famous for its 'twelve beaches', each different: La Fossette and its turquoise cove, Cavalière and its kilometre of fine sand, Pramousquier hidden in the rocks, Saint-Clair (the most family-friendly), Grande Plage in the heart of the village. We know each one and recommend the right one based on your group, your day plan, the wind.

Bormes-les-Mimosas, a perched medieval village ranked among the most beautiful in France, overlooks the bay. Its narrow cobbled streets, flowered facades, twelfth-century church, and panoramic terraces — Bormes is the village where every street is a postcard. In January-February, the mimosa hills cover the surroundings in yellow.

Cap Nègre, between Le Lavandou and Cavalaire, hides one of the most preserved coastal paths in Var: the protected creek of L'Estagnol, Cabasson beach with its Brégançon fort (presidential summer residence), discreet trails through cork oaks and pines. The Cap Lardier coastal path, on the other side, links Cavalaire to Gigaro by 3h of pure landscape.

On the water, the bay is ideal for paddle, kayak, sailing courses, and family boat trips. The Iles d'Or (Porquerolles, Port-Cros, Levant) are accessible by shuttle from Le Lavandou harbour — a 35-minute crossing. Less famous than from La Tour Fondue but just as fast.

Frequently asked questions

Our answers about Maures coast.

Why are Le Lavandou beaches different?

Le Lavandou benefits from golden sand (instead of pebbles as in Nice or the Riviera). It's a rarity along the Côte d'Azur and explains why the destination is so family-friendly. Twelve beaches over 12 km, each with its own character.

Bormes village or Le Lavandou seaside?

Bormes village if you love perched villages and panoramic views (no beach in the village itself, you go down to Bormes-Plage). Le Lavandou seaside for direct beach access. The two are 10 minutes apart by car — best to combine.

Can we access Porquerolles from Le Lavandou?

Yes, daily shuttle from Le Lavandou harbour from April to October. Crossing 35 min, around €30 round trip per adult. Great alternative if you stay in Le Lavandou rather than Hyères.

Cap Nègre coastal path — easy?

Yes, in family mode (2-3h easy walks from L'Estagnol to Cabasson). For longer hikes, the Cap Lardier path (Cavalaire-Gigaro) requires 4-5h and a bit of stamina.
